Can't leave well enough alone... Jul 07, 2011
By Rick D Aue The Gel-Trabuco 14 boasted several "improvements" but I found it to be a less sturdy, less rugged and less stable "trail" should than the 13. I actually use them to run trails, and found the upper provided too little support and strength so I tended to turn over my ankles more on un-even terrain (like you would find on, oh say for example trails). Also, it seems like the sole is softer and so my foot feels more of every little rock or twig I step on. The tread design does not feel as "aggressive" as it was on my prior Trabuco-13s so I found myself slipping more.
Overall, it performs and feels more like a road running shoe than a true, hard-core trail shoe.
If your idea of trail running is a crushed gravel path around the lake - this may be a great shoe for you. But if your trail running requires a forest pass and a topo map - you might want to reconsider the Trabuco 14.
Also, it took FOREEVER for Road Runner sports to ship them!

Asics Mens GEL-Trabuco 14 running shoe Oct 17, 2011
By SpruceMoose7 I am a carpenter and i bought these shoes for work when i am laying floors, decking etc. I don't have a bad word for them. They are super comfy and moulded to my feet within a few days. They seem to have a really good wear rate so far and i have put them through a bit of punishment already. They have met and exceeded my expectations so far. Love the color scheme as it doesn't show up the dirt.

version #14 is Asic Trabuco's return to quality trail shoes Oct 07, 2011
By M Mirams Asic were getting lighter (that is, cheaper), but the Asic Trabuco version #14 (2011) is a return to quality off-roading. Even just looking at the photo you can see there is TWICE the stiff material connecting the laces with the sole (#13 was only supported by the Asic logo - #14 has an inlay). When you pick them up, you notice there is TWICE the support in the toe area (the #13 has one layer all over the toe, while the #14 has a double layer everywhere but the centre of the toe - the ventilation area). When you put them on, you feel the difference immediately. Run with them and it feels like going home - back to the old days (early 2009) when shoes were not an issue worth arguing about and you took life for granted. Ahhh...
As you can probably tell from the above, I have 2 pairs of brand new Asics Trabucos sitting in front of me: the 2010 version #13 (which are going back) and 2011 version #14 (as well as very used version #11s and #12s in the corner). The previous reviewers (who are saying version #14 offers less support) are so wrong that it is suspicious - either they got the versions mixed up and mean the #13 are worse than #12, or they work for the competition... In any event, the latest version #14 is a return to the support offered by the earlier versions. Anyone who prefers version #13s to any other version should please be careful of curbs or cracks, you poor street running innocent.
Great Shoes! Apr 25, 2012
By DCbuyer I switched from motion control shoes to these Asics trail runners and love them. They look great (green and black) and are rugged and comfortable. Good purchase!
Men's Asics Gel Trabuco 14(Trail Running) Feb 19, 2012
By James White I recently purchased Asics Gel Trabuco 14 trail running sneakers. I have been a long time wearer of Asics GT 2100 series so I was familiar w/their normal running shoes. With this in mind I ordered my normal size. I had to re-order at a 1/2 size larger due to the narrowness of the toe combined w/a rubber toe protector that made it very uncomfortable to walk let alone run in. Once I had the right size I ran various distances w/out break in and my feet felt fine. I have run in all types of weather conditions(snow/rain/ice) and various terrains. The traction is very good. These sneakers are very durable and have the normal stability you find w/Asics. The padded tongue/collar at that top of the shoe is very protective and holds your laces tight w/o being uncomfortable. I was concerned about the rock protection plate on the bottom of the shoe and that it would be uncomfortable but you don't even notice it. I recommend these sneakers for trail running but would really think about ordering 1/2 size larger.
