NOT MADE FOR ICE!!! Dec 12, 2011
By Vicki McNabb I am a huge Asics fan and only buy Asics running shoes/ trainers etc. I recently purchased a pair of Asics Arctic Gels as I am a avid walker and live in Northern BC Canada. The shoes are marketed as "designed to satisfy the needs of runners facing icy running conditions". I tried my new shoes out for the first time this morning, looking forward to my morning walk without having to worry about slipping on the ice. I was very much disappointed! The shoes are fine on packed snowy surfaces, but when you walk on ice it is like having a pair of skates on. The metal spikes (which actually are not pointed but are flat) give the shoes a skate like quality, making the shoes even more slippery than my regular shoes. I am so terribly disappointed in spending over $150 us funds to buy my shoes and have them shipped by Amazon as I could not find them in my area. The shoes are not for icy conditions at all! Quite frankly I found them dangerously slippery! I really wonder what kind of testing went into these shoes.

By Jen Sorry I've taken so long to review. These are the best shoes I've ever had. They are lasting longer than most shoes I've had and they're comfortable. The service was fast and product was as described. Thank you.
Great for the Year-Round Runner Jan 22, 2012
By M. Brennan As winter kicked in this year, I couldn't bear the thought of being limited to the treadmill until Spring. However, my light and airy Adidas runners were definitely not fit for winter wear, so I researched my options. I couldn't imagine wearing those strap-on contraptions, and I seriously doubted that the various rubber-spiked soles would give enough traction. I hate the cold and I wanted something that would give me great traction and keep my feet warm.
These shoes are not for the casual runner or dog-walker; they are for the runner who can't stand being locked up all winter and doesn't expect a pair of shoes to eliminate all the dangers of the winter elements. For me, the silence of the open road feeds my soul, so being safe and confident while running in freezing weather was important. While conditions are never the same twice, these shoes give me great traction, though they don't do much in soft-pack snow or deeply-frozen ice. You really want to be running on roads or trails that have been plowed. It's definitely not like summer running, and the metal plate makes for a heavier, less-flexible shoe, but on the flip side, I get a better workout because I'm working against the shoes and the elements. I do have to keep a special shoe-tray by the door, as these are serious spikes and do not improve the appearance of household floors! Having my freedom back is wonderful. Give me my Road ID, my earmuffs, and my Artic 4 runners, and I'll be back next Spring!
My winter shoes Dec 27, 2011
By Louise F. Lavoie Wow! I love my shoes. Winter has finally arrived in Ottawa. I went running with my shoes and for the first time, while running outside during the winter my feet were warm. Yeh! for my new shoes. Thank you.
