these boots are great and fit true Oct 27, 2010
By why Great pair of boots that fit true. I own another pair of Frye boots and they tend to be very durable and very comfortable. They break in well too.

Got these in black. Was skeptical about purchasing these boots because I'm not a hiker. But thought I could use them in the ole wardrobe anyway. Glad that I did. These were made in Mexico, in fact all of my Frye's were except for one pair, were made in China. These boots as one reviewer stated, "are true to size!" The craftsmanship and leather are excellent. You would think that a boot of this quality and build would be a little heavy, but they are not, in fact, I have seen similar boots of less quality weigh more. Soft foot lining so no need for addition insoles. I wear medium width shoes and I loved the way these feel snug against the feet. Not restrictive, but give you the confidence that they are laced to your feet. Leather lining is soft. Sole is also leather, but has rubber on the heel and foot area that is sewn and nailed on in their respective locations. The shoe stings are very thick, cloth material. The leather collar near the ankle area is padded for additional comfort. Triple stitching where need. So no, I'm not a hiker, but these boots will be worn as a casual cool boot. For those that do hike, etc., I feel that these boots are built for the challenge, though the traction on the soles are a little shallow. From the looks of it, I expect years of wear out of these. If I had to make any changes, I would have added a little more rubber on the soles, more for appearance than anything else. I love this boot and my daughter liked them as well. If you get these on sale, they are more than worth it. If you pay full price they are worth it as well. I don't think you should have a problem finding these on sale. My only regret is that I didn't order the dark brown as well.

So, these boots are awesome! 4 stars because they are a bit snug in toe area, but nothing time can't fix. I'm a girl who loves to rock some boots with skirts and these earned their place on my feet. I got the dark brown and for the price, wow! Boys, you'll look mighty fine in them too~ I love them :)

Excellent quality and worksmanship, but way too tight Oct 30, 2009

These would have been my 4th pair of frye boots. I have Harness 8r, Rand Engineer(I've seen these called Brando Engineer) and Rogan engineer. The quality of these boots are on par with other Frye products I have. However, these boots were EXTREMELY tight both around the foot and above the ankle. So tight that movement was restricted and therefore I will be returning these. The Rogan Engineer style is my fave.
Like all other frye boots i've tried, they tend to be sized a half size too big, so get a nine if your normal size is 9.5.

Oldest shoe company in the U.S., shoes made in Mexico. Jan 07, 2009

I have no complaints whatsoever with the look or construction of this fine boot, nor do I believe that shoes constructed in Mexico are by virtue of that fact inferior. What galls me a little is the lack of honesty in advertising. If manufacturing of your product has been outsourced to a different country it's quite disingenuous to be saying things such as "The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States."
Update: Fell apart after a year. Bogus.
