4Very comfortable  Oct 08, 2009
By Alden Globe
These are -no question- the most comfortable boot I"ve ever tried. I've had Raichle, Salomon, Mephisto, Hi-Tec, Danner, Nike and a few others. Recently I've been using a low-cut Salomon but found I need more ankle support. These are a good blend of lightweight and support. I did swap out the insole for a Superfeet insole; that helps make a difference too.

5One of the best I've owned  Feb 27, 2009
By BL "SirHikesALot"
I am a hiker/backpacker who consistantly abuses boots. I've owned Hi-Tecs, Asolos, and finally the Merrell Sawtooth. I love this boot. I've owned them for nearly a year and have used it in every season and every conceivable Midwest weather configuration; these boots have risen to the challenge. I will admit, I had my doubts initially. These boots took far LONGER to break in than any boot I have ever owned. But once they were broken in, they are incredibly comfortable no matter what mile I am on. I have not encountered the stitching issues or sole issues some other reviewers have had. I would (and I have) recommend this boot to others.

4Good boot overall.  Nov 22, 2007
By Rich
I've worn these boots on week long backpacking trips through Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Big Bend National Parks. They breath relatively well versus a full leather upper boot. The Vibram sole has excellent traction and is high quality. The boot is relatively water resistant, although it does not have a Gore-tex liner but water has never soaked through the boot. I really think Gore-tex liners are unnecessary unless you like to hike in very rainy areas. I've replaced the insoles with Spenco Backpackers for extra support under load. The only problem I've encountered is the rubber toe protection, which is part of the sole, has started to delaminate from the shoe. Great boot overall.

5Afghanistan  May 24, 2012

I purchased these boots for the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan. These boots are amazing for the price. Very comfortable. I did a 8 mile foot patrol the day after I received them and did not get a single blister. I did however, replace the insoles that are sold with them. The insoles that come with them are good, but feel "gel-like" and I needed something a lot stiffer for the extremely rocky terrain here. I purchased them about a month ago, and have put over 100 miles on them so far. They have held up very well with only one scratch (from constantine wire). Overall, wonderful boots, would definitely recommend to a friend, as well as, buy them again if I needed to.

5Excellent boot  Apr 23, 2012
By Scott M
I first have to say I bought this boot online after reading the reviews. I have bought other boots from Merrell which I have been very happy with. This wasn't the boot I was expecting. I was expecting a light weight hiker like the Moab Ventilator. What I got instead was a hard core well made civilian/combat type boot. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent boot. I just won't be wearing it around in the summer with a pair of shorts like I intended. Instead I will be wearing the Ventilators. This would be a great boot for outdoor activities such as paintball, backpacking, back country expeditions and a good sub for your combat boots.
