I sometimes have trouble finding light, comfortable running shoes that are reasonably priced and not designed for kids (bright colors, lightning bolts, see-through cushion bubbles, etc.). So I've worn 497's for years. This is the replacement model, and although New Balance has updated them somewhat, they still have the toned-down styling I like. Most of all, they are well made and they still make my feet feel very good.

I was having some knee and toe pain when running, but when I replaced the running shoes I was wearing with these, the pain in both places disappeared. This shoe gives excellent padding and support for longer runs. Best of all, it is one of New Balance's Made in the USA models. While it is actually cheaper than many of their shoes produced elsewhere, this shoe would be worth extra money to ensure fair wages and safe working conditions, as well as supporting local economies and domestic jobs. If you have the choice, even if they're a few extra dollars (which right now they aren't!), please buy this excellent shoe and keep local economies functioning. If the consumer demand is there, if we're willing to spend a few extra dollars to support proper working conditions and local economies, maybe we can convince more businesses to move their facilities back to the USA.

"Try Hard To Avoid Malls"
Excellent value. Fit well, adequate support and comfortable right out of the box. I use them during workouts using treadmill. Bad knees-can't run anymore but think these would be fine if I ran in them. This is my second pair. Had the grey first, now the white.

Bought the NB M498 Tennis shoe Made in USA for my husband and he is very pleased with the shoes. Great qualtiy for the money. He only buys Made in USA, so he was happy to find this shoe at the price it was.
